The Metrorail program was launched at 11 a.m. with a beautiful inauguration ceremony at Diabari in Uttara.
Following its launch, the metro rail will travel nonstop from Uttara to Agargaon, with no stops at the route's intermediate stations. Passengers will be able to commute by metro train starting the next day (Thursday).
Initially, ten sets of six cabin trains would travel from Uttara to Agargaon. The running period will be extended in the future, and the number of trains will be expanded in response to demand.
Once the metro rail system is completely operating, trains will operate every three and a half minutes. The train will stop at each station until all passengers have boarded and exited. Each train has a capacity of 2,300 people and travels at a speed of 100 to 110 KM/H.
People have been flocking to Diabari in Uttara since the morning to celebrate the opening of the metro line. Around the inaugural ceremony and peaceful demonstration, Awami League workers and supporters came in Uttara Sector 15 with banners and festoons. They appear there and provide various slogans.
A 20-kilometer metro rail line is being built from Diabari in the capital's Uttarar district to Motijheel. The 11.73-kilometer segment from Uttara to Agargaon was launched on Wednesday. Following its launch, the metro rail will travel nonstop from Uttara to Agargaon, with no stops at the route's intermediate stations.
The minimum fare for Metrorail is Tk.20. Tk 60 is the fare from Uttara to Agargaon. After the project is completed, the train will operate from Uttara to Kamalapur through Motijheel. The fare for that distance will then be capped at 100 taka.
