Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva made his second speech as president-elect of Brazil on Sunday night (30), on Avenida Paulista, in So Paulo. He announced to the crowd that surrounded him and to everyone who witnessed that moment on television that he would need two days of recollection after the electoral marathon, but Lula did not make it. This past Monday (October 31), the first morning after his triumph at the polls, he met with a head of state in the person of Alberto Fernández, the President of Argentina.
Lula had just recovered from the election for president when, just a few minutes after 9 o'clock in the morning, he was already on his way out of the house to start the day's activities. The incoming president of Brazil was the subject of attention from journalists, photographers, and cameramen located in dozens of countries throughout the globe.
The visit of the president of Argentina was the first scheduled event. Alberto Fernández made it a point to visit Brazil in order to personally congratulate the newly elected president. They discussed the respect for electoral procedures, the integration of Latin American countries, and the strengthening of democratic institutions across the continent. Additionally, the President of Argentina stated that he hopes for the best for Brazil.
"When Brazil is doing well, inexorably, Argentina is doing well, because we are clearly brothers and sisters," he added. "When Brazil is doing well, inexorably, Argentina is doing well."
Lula also earned compliments from former Uruguayan president Pepe Mujica. It was before the election when he landed in Brazil. On Monday the 31st, he made the statement that his friend's triumph brought the Brazilian people back to their former excitement and hope:
"A glimmer of optimism and happiness for you. Those who are finding the most happiness in the process of healing their hearts ".

In response to a question posed by correspondent Raquel Krahenbühl in Washington, Vice President Joe Biden stated that his connection with Brazilian President Lula da Silva was very strong and that he and Lula will collaborate on important issues such as the protection of the environment and the consolidation of democratic institutions.
Lula was also in communication with the presidents of Colombia and Chile around this time. The newly elected president met with members of his campaign staff during the entirety of the day on the first floor of the hotel. According to the information provided by the press office, he will be taking a few days off during this week and has plans to travel to several different countries before he takes office.
