Even if the minor surrounding nations are making the largest sacrifices relative to their economic power, the United States is providing the most material assistance to Kiev in the form of weapons and money.

Ukraine has the backing of the European Union, the United States, and NATO as they fight alongside them against Vladimir Putin's Russia. The leaders of the Twenty-Seven states committed "to offer strong political, military, and financial assistance" to Kiev "for as long as is required" in the conclusions of the recent European Council. However, since the outbreak of hostilities, Joe Biden's United States has pledged more military and economic support than any other country, including every member state of the European Union.

Between January 24 (one month before the last invasion) and October 3 (three months after the last invasion), the United States contributed $52 billion, or 56% of total commitments, while European countries contributed $18 billion, or 40% of total commitments. This is according to the latest calculation by the Institute of the Kiel Institute for the World Economy, a German research institute that created the Ukraine Support Tracker, a tool to track military and economic aid to the country led by Volodymyr Zelensky. When it comes to military aid, the United States provides almost two-thirds of the weapons while Europe provides just around a quarter.

Nonetheless, when GDP is taken into account, it becomes clear that the tiny Baltic countries and the countries bordering Ukraine are the ones making the most significant sacrifices to aid it. The governments in the area are making the vast majority of the effort when it comes to accepting refugees, another approach to aid the nation. An estimated 0.71 percent of Poland's GDP has been lost due to migrants, compared to 0.08 percent in Germany and 0.1 percent in Britain.

"The U.S. contribution is almost double that of all EU member states and institutions put together. As many of the larger European states' commitments arrive in Ukraine with lengthy delays, and as the summer's low volume of new commitments now appears to continue systemically, this is a pitiful accomplishment at best "Ukraine Support Tracker team leader and Kiel Institute research center director Christoph Trebesch made this statement. He noted that the United States government is a more trustworthy ally for Ukraine than the European Union nations who have been slow to deliver on an April pledge of financial help.

Report estimates that the overall number of tanks in NATO and EU nations is down by 2%, the number of Howitzers (anti-tank artillery) is down by 4%, and the number of Mlrs (multiple launch missile systems) is down by 5% due to the shipments already completed. Germany and France, two major EU members, have each given Ukraine with a significant portion of their stockpiles: Germany would have supplied Kiev with 12 percent of its Howitzer and missile systems, while France would have supplied Kiev with 15 percent of its missile systems.

When seen as a whole, the United States' contributions to military assistance ($27.6 billion), humanitarian help ($9.5 billion), and financial aid ($15.2 billion) are significant. The European Union's monetary, humanitarian, and military contributions total 12.3 billion. Italy ranks ninth with 0.15 billion in military assistance and 0.51 billion in financial aid, behind countries like the United Kingdom ($3.74, £0.37, and $1.14), and Germany ($1.2, $0.95, and $1.14).

But if we look at the ratio of assistance to GDP, we can see that the countries putting forth the greatest effort to maintain ties with Kiev are Latvia, Estonia, Poland, Lithuania, and Norway, with contributions of 0.92 and 0.85, respectively. proportionally to 0.48, 0.43, and 0.38% of GDP. The United States is spending (or planning to spend) 0.25 percent, the United Kingdom is spending 0.24 percent, and Italy is spending 0.04 percent.
