A 35-year-old man attempted to shoot the vice president in the head, according to the country's security minister. At the point of firing, the weapon would have failed.
A guy was caught in Buenos Aires on Thursday night (1st) after attempting to kill Cristina Kirchner, Argentina's vice president. The guy, according to Security Minister Anbal Fernández, is Fernando Andrés Sabag Montiel, a 35-year-old Brazilian.
The .38-caliber handgun was loaded, but it did not discharge, leaving the vice president unharmed. Kirchner, who is also the president of the Argentine Senate, was waving to fans in front of her home in the Recoleta area when she was attacked. The attack's motivation is unclear.
At the time of the assassination attempt, he lifts his gun-wielding left hand and attempts to fire. In the footage, you can see him cocking the gun, which he fails to do. Cristina's security detail, the Argentine Federal Police, immediately apprehended him.
"Our Scientific (police) people must now evaluate the scenario to judge the tracks and the skill and willingness that this individual has," Anbal Fernández said.
According to GloboNews journalist Ariel Palácios, the Brazilian circulated among the group of Kirchnerist militants who had been at the entrance of the building where the vice president resided since last week. People nearby spotted the unusual activity just before the incident.
Kirchner, who is facing corruption charges, has a security squad of 100 federal police personnel, according to Palacios, which is the greatest security program in Argentine history.
Fernando Andrés Sabag Montiel, 35, is a convicted felon. At 2021, he was issued a warning by an Argentine court for possessing an illegal firearm in his house in Buenos Aires' La Paternal neighborhood. He stated the firearm was for self-defense at the time.
According to commercial documents, Sapag Montiel is registered as an app driver and has a vehicle.
